Albay Gov. Joey Salceda sends Mayon evacuees home in this January 2 photos, after he gave orders to decamp based on Phivolcs bulletin lowering Alert Status to 3. More than 7,000 families staying within 7-8 kilometer danger zone went home bringing with them 15 kilos of rice each and pocket moneys. More evacuees will be going back tol their abodes as the volcano's activity drops to low level.

Phivolcs lowers Mayon’s alert level; PDCC decamps evacuees

School classes in Albay disrupted by the eruption of Mayon Volcano which saw the temporary conversion of classrooms to evacuation centers will resume on Monday, January 4, 2010.

Comment: We are in close coordination with Phivolcs. It really looks like "Mayon drops dead"- this is the first time in its recorded history. Phivolcs is asking for a few days of observation.
Yet, I am quite relieved about the possibility of a lower alert level. And it seems that God answered my prayers and saw the collective preparations of a united people and the benevolent ecosystem of national government agencies esp. DSWD, DOH, AFP and PNP, INGOs and the UN family and civic organizations. We are most thankful. more... |

Legazpi City (Dec. 31) -- Albay Gov. Joey Salceda yesterday ordered army soldiers to once more round up ‘stragglers’ within Mt. AGRICULTURE TRAINING SA EVAC CAMPS
LIKAY PELIGRO SA PASKO
One of the major pyschosocial care programs being implemented by the Provincial Government is the LIkay Peligro sa Pasko. This will essentially train farmers on new farming technologies. DA Regional Office will provide the inputs like seeds, highvalue crops and extension trainors while the Provincial Government of Albay will provide the MOOE. TESDA will provide short courses on non-farm entrepreneurial courses. more...
