Albay Governor Al Francis Bichara attended today, February 23, 2017, an Investment Forum for Gabi held at the Governor’s Conference Room at the Albay Provincial Capitol which was sponsored by the Department of Agriculture RFO V, and supported by the Albay Provincial Agricultural Services (PAS).
In the said forum, Governor Bichara pledged his full support to the gabi growers and investors in attendance reiterating his high priority stance for Albay agriculture.
In his message, Bichara said that Gabi, or Taro, along with sili production, will be given extra attention by the Provincial Government of Albay, along with several other local produce such as ube, cassava, and kamote among others.
“We will earmark five million pesos to boost the gabi and sili industry, along with other agricultural products, we have even looked at the seaweed industry of Rapu-Rapu,” Bichara said.
The Governor also directed the PAS to closely monitor the progress of the gabi and sili production and to deliver all the assistance that they can provide to the growers.
“More importantly though, is that we help each other, and that you should dedicate yourselves to your livelihood, so that we can help you in your craft,” he further stated.
Bichara also told the farmers to first do an analysis on the soil they will be toiling, saying that all their efforts would be in vain if their land is not viable for farming.
During the investment forum, attendees were introduced to the newest production and drying technologies available for gabi, private corporations held a buyers forum.
