Christmas has always been a part of Filipino tradition. It will not be complete without the most iconic symbol of Christmas spirit, which is the parol. The star-shaped lanterns were usually hung out of the streets; others would display it on their own house as a representation of star. And it also serves as light in churches pathway making it more colourful, entertaining, and pleasing to the eye of the onlooker.
Today, the Albay Astrodome and Capitol Building has been surrounded by sightly yellow lanterns that will illuminate the pathways and the nearby establishments. For Filipinos, parol has been considered to symbolize hope even during the darkest nights. Hence, in this time of pandemic, by lighting parols and hanging Christmas ornaments, Albayanos may be uplifted and be ignited with hope.
