Representatives from the offices of DENR – Albay, BFAR – Albay, Bicol University and the LGU Polangui together with the department heads of the Albay Provincial Agricultural Office (APAO), Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO), and the Provincial Tourism, Culture and the Arts Office (PTCAO) had gathered last October 10, 2020 to conduct a conference-meeting regarding the conservation and protection of a specific kind of fish called “sinarapan” or locally known as “tabyos”.

Tabyos is the smallest fish in the world that is a commercially harvested food fish. It is considered as an endemic species or can only be found in Danao Lake in Polangui, Albay and also in the lakes of Buhi and Bato in Camarines Sur.

With the initiative to conserve and prevent the complete extinction of tabyos, Gov. Al Francis C. Bicahara had formed a technical working group for the establishment of the “Albay Tabyos Research Station” in Danao, Polangui, Albay.
