The Department of Agriculture holds a search for Outstanding Rural Women every year and the women from Albay never disappoint. This year’s Regional Awarding Ceremony was held Villa Caceres in Naga City last November 15, 2021.

DA Undersecretary for High Value Crops and chairperson of the Gender and Development Focal Point System, Evelyn G. Laviña joined the awarding ceremony virtually and conveyed her message to the winners and the rural women. She said: “The pandemic was a great leveler as everybody rich or poor had to bear its adverse effects and it put everyone under a pall of dread and anxiety. But the rural women have shown their courage, strength of character, leadership and resiliency as they assiduously heeded the call of duty and tirelessly pursued their goal for their family and community” She cited Bicol as one of the models for women empowerment.

Among the regional finalists who were likewise recognized and awarded with cash prizes and plaque of appreciation is Ms. Marissa A. Agripa from Legazpi City. She was given a cash prize worth Php10, 000 for placing 5th Runner Up in the Regional level of the nationwide search.

The Regional Search for Outstanding Rural Women 2021 was facilitated by the GAD FPS under the supervision of Aloha Gigi Bañaria.
